Unsure about your next move? Get clear on what comes next.
Career direction coaching for experienced professionals can help when you know something needs to change, but you’re not sure what that change should be. You may have built considerable experience, but no longer feel certain about where you want your career to go next.
The challenge is not simply finding another job. It’s working out which direction makes sense for your skills, experience, priorities and the kind of working life you want.
You can reach a point in your career where what worked for you before no longer feels right. Your priorities may have changed, the work may no longer interest you, or you may simply feel that you have reached the end of a particular road.
The difficult part is knowing what should replace it.
After years in a particular profession or industry, it can be difficult to see beyond the roles you already know. Your experience can actually make this harder because you naturally think about your future in terms of what you have done before.
The starting point is to understand what you want from the next stage of your career, what you have to offer, and which realistic options bring those things together.
Career decisions become harder when several things are pulling you in different directions. You may want more meaningful work, better balance, greater challenge or simply something different, without knowing what that looks like in practice.
Your experience may open up several possibilities, but that doesn’t necessarily make the decision easier. Some options may fit your skills but not your priorities. Others may sound appealing but require changes you’re not prepared to make.
The goals is simply not to find more options. It is to identify which options genuinely fit your and are realistic enough to pursue
Â
You will leave with clarity about the direction that fits you best and a practical plan for making it happen.
What once suited you no longer feels like where you want to spend the next stage of your career.
You can see different options, but you don’t have enough confidence in any one of them to make a decision.
You know you want something different but aren’t sure where your experience and capabilities could transfer.
You’ve become good at what you do, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you want to keep doing it.
What you want from work, your lifestyle or your definition of success is different from what it was earlier in your career.
Technology, AI or changes in the market are forcing you to reconsider where your skills and experience will fit in the future.
The Situation: Ankita needed to secure a role in Geelong to meet her visa requirements, but she was applying for a wide range of positions without a clear direction. With a background in IT, she wasn’t sure where her experience could take her or what type of work would suit her best. Through our work together, we identified that her interests and strengths pointed towards supply chain management.
The Outcome: Once Ankita had a clear direction, she could focus on the right opportunities and position her experience accordingly. She went on to secure a Supply Chain Specialist role in Geelong. In her own words, the career coaching gave her the “confidence and clarity” to move forward in a direction that was right for her.

I hope to stay in touch, and I will certainly recommend your service to anyone seeking career guidance.

The Situation: Paul had built a successful career as a senior executive in government and had played a significant leadership role through some challenging periods. Following a change in government and a senior reshuffle, however, he found himself in a position that no longer gave him the opportunity to lead in the way he wanted.
He still had considerable experience, energy and capability. The question was what he wanted from the next stage of his career and where that experience could realistically take him outside the government environment.
The Outcome: Our work helped Paul clarify what mattered to him, assess his experience and capabilities, and explore where they could transfer into a different sector. Education emerged as a strong fit, allowing him to continue working at a senior level while moving into a very different environment.
Paul subsequently moved into the education sector, securing a senior HR leadership role with a major international university. Rather than simply finding another senior position, he had identified a new direction where his experience could be put to use and he could continue developing his career.
“Peter was fantastic to work with and provided a methodical, paced and realistic approach to assisting in advancing my career goals. Some good profiling my career likes and strengths and some helpful advice on areas for improvement in the coaching space, followed by real world assistance in branding, better presentation of applications and cleaning up what had become a boring CV. Thanks Peter – I would strongly recommend you.“
