Career progression coaching is for experienced professionals who are ready to move forward, but aren’t sure what is holding them back or what they need to demonstrate to take the next step. You may already have strong experience and a solid track record, but progression into a more senior role can require something different from what made you successful at your current level.
The challenge is to understand what the next level actually requires, identify any gaps in your experience or capability, and work out how to build and position what you need to move forward.
Â
You can reach a point in your career where continuing to perform well is no longer enough to move you forward. You may be delivering strong results and taking on greater responsibility, but the next opportunity still doesn’t come.
As roles become more senior, the expectations change. Technical expertise and strong performance may have built your career, but progression can increasingly depend on broader leadership capability, strategic exposure, commercial understanding and your ability to demonstrate that you can operate at the next level.
The starting point is to understand what the next level requires, where you currently stand against those expectations, and which gaps need to be addressed.
I work with experienced professionals who are ready for greater responsibility and want to be deliberate about how they get there.

I’m Peter Mazzucato, founder of Pillentum. I’ve spent 26 years across recruitment and career coaching, including 20 years in recruitment.
That experience has given me a practical understanding of how organisations assess people for more senior roles, and why strong performers can sometimes find their career progression stalls.
Progression is not always about working harder or accumulating more experience. The issue may be the type of experience you have, gaps in your exposure, how you are perceived, or whether you are demonstrating the capabilities expected at the next level.
That’s why my work starts by identifying what is actually standing between you and the role you want, then developing a practical strategy to address it.
If this sounds like you, the next step is simple
Brian had progressed from technical GIS roles into senior delivery leadership, managing teams, clients, complex projects and significant commercial responsibilities.
But the way he described his career still centred heavily on his technical GIS background. It no longer reflected the level at which he was actually operating.
Our work uncovered where his value had shifted: leading delivery, managing people and clients, improving processes and turning technical complexity into business outcomes. We also clarified that he wanted to remain close to teams and delivery rather than pursue increasingly corporate executive roles.
That allowed us to reposition his experience around the leader he had become, rather than the technical specialist he had once been.
“Peter helped me recognise that my career had moved well beyond my technical background. The work we did gave me a much clearer understanding of the value I brought as a delivery leader and how to position myself for the roles I wanted next. I would highly recommend Peter.”

Jason had built substantial senior leadership experience, including responsibility within a very large mining operation.
After his position was made redundant following a change to the operating structure of a large mining operation, he had an opportunity to think carefully about what he wanted from the next stage of his career.
His previous role had also confirmed something important. He didn’t want to return to another huge mining organisation where he felt like just a number. He wanted to work in an environment where he could use his strengths, have greater influence and continue building his capabilities.
Our work wasn’t simply about finding his next job. We looked further ahead.
Jason wanted his career eventually to take him overseas. We worked backwards from that goal to identify the experience and capabilities that would strengthen his position, the type of role that would allow him to build them, and the career moves that would take him towards his longer-term objective.
The process also helped Jason clarify the kind of senior leadership that suited him. Moving towards a CEO or Managing Director position might have appeared to be the obvious next step, but the networking and business development aspects of those roles weren’t where he wanted to spend his time. His strengths and interests were much more strongly aligned with operational leadership.
Rather than chasing the next title, Jason now had a progression strategy.
He took a role that allowed him to broaden his experience and build the capabilities we had identified. About a year later, he made the move overseas and returned to the kind of senior operational leadership work he had been working towards.
His progression wasn’t a series of disconnected job moves. Each move had a purpose and took him closer to where he ultimately wanted his career to go.
Peter helped me look beyond my next role and think strategically about where I wanted my career to go. The plan we developed gave me a clear path forward, and it worked. I would highly recommend Peter.”
